History of Woodbury.

The city of Woodbury was originally settled in 1844 and referred to Red Rock Township. In 1859 the name was changed to Woodbury in honor of Levi Woodbury, a US Senator in New Hampshire from 1825 to 1831. Levi Woodbury was later appointed to Secretary of the Navy and Secretary of the US Treasury by President Andrew Jackson and eventually Associate Justice of the Supreme Court by President James Polk.

Located less then 18 miles from downtown Minneapolis and 15 minutes to the Minneapolis / St Paul Airport the city adopted the motto that Woodbury is “Close to everything and far from ordinary”. Woodbury is also along several important highways including Interstate 94 to Hudson Wisconsin, 494 and the 694 interchange as well as Highway 61 to Hastings Minnesota.

Central park is located in City Center and offers the Lookout Ridge play area for children, Washington County Library Branch, meeting rooms, and indoor amphitheater. Central park also includes an indoor park the size of a football field complete with trees, flowers and waterfalls.

The city of Woodbury is serviced by 3 major school districts. These include the; North Saint Paul / Maplewood ISD #622, South Washington County ISD #834, and Stillwater ISD #833. This includes X high schools, x middle/jr high schools and X elementary schools, not to mention several private or specialty schools. You will also notice that there is not a Woodbury school district. Most of the schools that fall in the city of Woodbury are part of the South Washington County School District and certain parts of Woodbury are serviced by other school districts. This is a very important point to consider when looking to purchase a home here.
